Frequently Asked Questions

  • The goal of therapy is to help people find increased connection with their emotions, experiences, and relationships, so they can live in ways that are more authentic and meaningful to them. Processing past pain and other blocks is often part of this work. Improved mood, motivation, connection, and meaning are frequently-reported results from therapy. Therapy is different from talking to a family member or friend because it provides you a confidential and judgment-free space with a trained professional who can assist you in reaching your goals. Please contact me if you have questions or if you’d like to arrange a free 20-minute consult.

  • My practice is based out of Woodinville, Washington, a lush little city on the Eastside of the greater Seattle area. But through online therapy, I can provide care to anyone who is located in Washington State!

  • Through online therapy, you have access to care from the comfort of your home or office, without the hassle of traffic or sitting in the waiting room. Before our session, you’ll receive a custom link that will take you to my secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, where we will meet! That easy. Online therapy has been shown to be as effective as in-person therapy for most issues and also can make therapy more accessible and convenient for those who would have trouble attending an in-office appointment. To be able to do online therapy, you must:

    - Be in Washington State at the time of the session
    - Have a secure, strong internet connection
    - Have a quiet, comfortable, confidential location to hold the session
    - Know the same fees, policies, and billing procedures apply

Online therapy is not appropriate for everyone, however. Those who are in crisis or actively contemplating suicide should seek a local in-person therapist who can best support them. If these concerns arise during our work together, we will make a plan to connect you with local resources.

  • I do!

I have an office in downtown Woodinville and am available for in-person office sessions on a limited basis.

I also provide outdoor “walk-and-talk” therapy sessions in Woodinville! During outdoor sessions, we meet at an easily-accessible location and walk along a smooth paved trail as we have the therapy session. Clients must be able to walk for an hour easily to be candidates for outdoor therapy, and should consult a doctor if they have concerns. I’ll meet rain or shine, but if you prefer to move a session to online therapy on a particularly stormy or cold day, I can accommodate that easily.

  • If you’re feeling nervous about your first appointment, that’s totally normal! It can be helpful to know what to expect.

I look at our first appointment as a chance to begin really getting to know you. I’ll start by asking you questions - yes questions about what you’re hoping to address in therapy, but also questions about YOU - what your day to day world looks like, what your hopes and strengths are, your important relationships, etc.

We will also spend some time making a roadmap of what sessions will look like and where we’ll be focusing in the coming weeks, making sure your top priorities are guiding us.

And of course, we’ll have space for you to ask any questions you have - about me, my approach, the process, etc.

And that’s it! Your first session in the books, the rest of your journey awaits!

  • It would be great to be able to give a clear answer to that question, but the reality is, how long therapy takes is dependent on lots of variables, including the nature of the challenges you’re addressing in therapy, your life circumstances, how you process during sessions, and how you engage the therapy process outside of sessions. Research suggests most therapy clients feel significant improvement after 12-15 sessions, and I would expect similar results in our work. Generally, the clients I work with continue past this point and engage in therapy for at least 6 months and often over a year. This longer course is typical of depth-therapy approaches that address the roots of issues and lead to lasting change. My goal is to help you meet your goals as soon as possible.

  • It is within your rights to decline a diagnosis. A diagnosis will only be provided for reimbursement claims for you to submit to your insurance provider, upon your request. Any diagnoses will be discussed between us for purposes of treatment planning and providing referrals.

When you submit information to an insurance company, the insurance company may store your private information in the Medical Information Bureau where it can be accessed in the future by other parties, like life insurance companies.
